Abstract
Orthodontics and periodontology are two essential components of contemporary
dentistry that necessitate collaborative engagement to ensure the long-term success
of dental procedures. This presentation aims to examine the functional and biological
connections between these two fields, focusing on the influence of orthodontic
interventions on periodontal tissues and the critical role of periodontal health in
orthodontic treatment planning.
Throughout the lecture, we will evaluate pivotal risk factors associated with
orthodontic movement in patients with periodontal conditions, strategies for
managing inflammation, and the importance of maintaining proper oral hygiene. We
will also underscore the significance of a close partnership between orthodontists
and periodontologists during the diagnostic, planning, and clinical follow-up stages to
avert complications such as alveolar resorption, gingival recession, and pathological
tooth migration.
By utilizing illustrative clinical cases and the most current scientific research, this
lecture aims to deliver a holistic approach that enhances not only aesthetic outcomes
and functional efficiency but also preserves the biological integrity of the supporting
dental structures.
